Heat Lose Head For Season With Broken Hand

Heat guard Luther Head broke his hand against the Magic on Monday night and will miss four-to-six weeks of action.

"I was shocked that it was broken," Head said. "I was trying to pop it back into place. It didn't feel like a break."

Surgery isn't required, but the time frame will keep him out through at least the first round of the playoffs.

"Luther was just getting into the flow of things," teammate Dwyane Wade said. "We just have to have somebody else step up."

Spoelstra: Heat Rotation Isn't Set

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra prefers an eight-man rotation, but admitted that his team doesn't always lend itself to such streamlining.

"As much as all of us want to solidify it, I just don't know if that's realistic with this roster," Spoelstra said. "We try to get a concrete rotation, [but] somebody will step up and [the rotation] changes."

Heat To Retire Mourning's No. 33 Monday

The Heat will officially retire Alonzo Mourning's No. 33 before Monday's game against the Magic.

"To have an organization recognize your accomplishments and honor you for your contribution, it's a humbling moment," Mourning said. "There's not a lot of people who have an opportunity to experience that. And being the first, it's going to be tremendously humbling. It'll be very difficult for me to hold back my emotions, because as a player, you never want it to end."

Monday's game was chosen so that Magic assistant Patrick Ewing, a good friend and fellow Georgetown alum, could be in attendance.
