By Christopher Reina

Certainly by now most of you are already familiar with my Floor Impact Counter and Reina Value. (Please click here to familiarize yourself with the systems.)

I also use the FIC to calculate team totals, both by game and for the season.

In order to determine my team rankings, I have calculated the difference between a team's own FIC per game and their opponents' FIC for the entire season.

Team: 09-10 FIC Differential

1. Boston Celtics : 44.5

The Celtics are winning games by an average point differential of 21.6. Their FIC differential of 44.5 is almost three times greater than the 15.7 they finished the season with last season.

2. Dallas Mavericks : 17.1

Though not in the same category as Boston, the Mavericks are giving up just 94.7 points per 100 possessions.

3. Phoenix Suns : 17.0

Even in extending his minutes out to 30 per night, Channing Frye is again showing those glimpses during his rookie season with New York that made him an impressive big. He is averaging 20.1 points per 36 minutes, albeit on an unsustainable 4.1 for 7.4 (56% shooting) from beyond the arc.

4. Denver Nuggets : 15.1

The Nuggets are scoring an NBA-best 117.9 points per 100 possessions.

5. Orlando Magic : 14.0

Ryan Anderson has been starting in place of the suspended Rashard Lewis and performing extremely well, shooting 38.7% on nearly eight attempts from distance per game.

6. San Antonio Spurs : 12.1

George Hill has been excellent to begin the season, scoring 19.2 points per 36 minutes on a True Shooting Percentage of .601, which all told ranks him second amongst point guards in the PER category with 26.1.

7. Miami Heat : 11.2

Michael Beasley hasn't been the efficient scorer Miami was counting on this season, scoring 16.6 points per 36 minutes on a True Shooting Percentage of .528.

8. Atlanta Hawks : 9.7

Even though he averaging just 13 minutes per night, Jeff Teague has impressively posted a PER of 20.0, already looking like a steal of the second half of the first round.

9. Cleveland Cavaliers : 9.4

The Cavaliers will climb back up the offensive rating chart from their current status of 16th, but in the PER department it will almost certainly be LeBron James around 30 and five or six others in the low to mid teens.

10. Portland TrailBlazers: 9.3

The Blazers were ranked 1st and 13th in offensive and defensive ratings last season and through their first five this season, they're ranked 13th and 13th respectively. Portland is being outplayed at point guard and they have also been a little disappointing in the frontcourt, both Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge.

11. Oklahoma City Thunder: 7.9

Kevin Durant has come back to earth, at least temporarily in the 3-point shooting department, going 2-for-19 (10.5%) in his first four games.

12. Houston Rockets : 2.8

Without Yao Ming, the Rockets are getting it done and winning games with smoke, mirrors, Aaron Brooks, Chuck Hayes and Chase Budinger.

13. L.A. Lakers : 1.2

As I mentioned in my season preview of the Lakers, keeping them interested is the most important part of Phil Jackson's job. They can look absolutely dominant at times and then just play opossum with their opponents for about 42 of the 48 minutes. This team needs to stay consistent with the oranges recommended by newcomer Ron Artest.

14. Washington Wizards : 0.0

Not unsurprising for the personnel on this team and their new head coach Flip Saunders, the Wizards are ranked seventh in offensive rating and 21st in defensive rating.

15. Detroit Pistons : -1.4

Not surprising considering their personnel (imported and incumbent both), but the Pistons are averaging just 14.3 assists per game, last in the NBA.

16. L.A. Clippers : -3.8

The Clippers are better than their record indicates, not even factoring in the difference Blake Griffin will make. Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby are fine, as is the .616 TS% Eric Gordon, but they need a whole lot more from Baron Davis, Al Thornton and Rasual Butler.

17. Philadelphia 76ers : -6.3

Marreese Speights si per minute wonder, posting a PER of 27.8 with 21.7 points and 12 rebounds per 36 minutes.

18. Milwaukee Bucks : -8.5

With Blake Griffin injured, the Rookie of the Year contest looks like it will come down to Brandon Jennings and Jonny Flynn, with near-identical PERs of 20.8 and 20.6 respectively. Jennings has a huge advantage in the minutes per game category, however, with only Stephen Curry seeing as much floor time.

19. Toronto Raptors : -9.1

Toronto's win against Cleveland to begin the season already feels like it happened a month ago; in the meantime they have lost twice. While they've received everything they could ask for from Chris bosh and Andrea Bargnani, they need significantly better play from Jose Calderon at the point guard spot.

20. Chicago Bulls : -9.6

Offensive efficiency continues to be a struggle for the jump shooting Bulls, who have an eFG% of .427, second worst in the NBA.

21. New Orleans Hornets : -11.5

The early returns on the Emeka Okafor trade are extremely positive, with the big man posting a PER of 22.5. Peja Stojakovic has also been showing his old form, shooting 54.5% from distance. Their schedule has been difficult with losses to the Spurs and Celtics on the road and then a disappointing loss at New York on the second of a back-to-back.

22. Sacramento Kings : -11.5

Kevin Martin is one of four players averaging 31 or more points per game.

23. Utah Jazz : -12.5

The Jazz are typically FIC darlings, but there is no masking the relative ineptitude of both their offense and defense. They are ranked 18th and 22nd respectively in offense and defense, down from 8th and 10th last season.

24. New York Knicks : -13.8

Danilo Gallinari leads the NBA in 3-pointers attempted (19) and made (42), which isn't likely to change as long as he remains healthy. Surprisingly, Rasheed Wallace ranks second being Gallo in attempts.

25. Minnesota Timberwolves : -14.1

For a young team with a rookie point guard, the Wolves shockingly have a +5.3 differential per game in the turnover department.

26. Memphis Grizzlies : -14.1

The Grizzlies lead the NBA in offensive rebounding percentage with a mark of .382, largely thanks to Zach Randolph.

27. Charlotte Bobcats : -14.3

It is a good thing Larry Brown likes to play a slow game because his offense is scoring an atrocious 86.6 points per 100 possessions.

28. New Jersey Nets : -19.3

Courtney Lee is getting plenty of playing time on his new team, but his PER of 10.6 has been disappointing.

29. Indiana Pacers : -28.6

Earl Watson has badly outplayed T.J. Ford, which is a bad sign for the quality of that position.

30. Golden State Warriors : -31.8

The Warriors have struggled in a myriad of categories, though it hardly seems fair that they've played just two games while many others have played five. Defending the perimeter already seems to be an area of weakness, as they have allowed a 3-point percentage against of 50%.
