Certainly by now most of you are already familiar with my Floor Impact Counter and Reina Value. (Please click here to familiarize yourself with the systems.)

I also use the FIC to calculate team totals, both by game and for the season.

In order to determine my team rankings, I have calculated the difference between a team's own FIC per game and their opponents' FIC for the entire season.

Team: 08-09 FIC Differential

1. Cleveland Cavaliers : 17.0

Mo Williams' field goal percentage has dropped from 48.0% to 46.9%, but his 3-point shooting has jumped from 38.5% to 43.9%.

2. Boston Celtics : 17.0

Boston, Cleveland and Orlando are one, two and three in terms of field goal percentage allowed with all of them around 43%, so it's not surprising to find them seated atop our rankings.

3. Orlando Magic : 14.0

Rafer Alston has improved his production and shooting since joining the Magic.

4. L.A. Lakers : 13.5

The Lakers have been significantly better defensively when Trevor Ariza and Lamar Odom have been on the floor.

5. Utah Jazz : 11.9

Utah hasn't been nearly as effective on the glass as we've become accustomed to expecting, but they have improved substantially on the defensive end over the past couple of seasons.

6. Portland Trail Blazers : 8.6

The Blazers have the NBA's second best offensive rating with 113.2 points per 100 possessions.

7. San Antonio Spurs : 7.8

The Spurs have an excellent assist/turnover rate of 1.80.

8. Denver Nuggets : 6.3

No team has done a better job in getting to the free throw line this season than the Nuggets, though the Warriors are a surprising number two.

9. Dallas Mavericks : 6.2

The Mavericks have slipped down to 16th in defensive rating this season from 9th last year and 5th when they won 67 games.

10. Houston Rockets : 5.8

The Rockets play a low-risk brand of defense and are currently fifth in defensive rating despite being 29th in forcing turnovers.

11. New Orleans Hornets : 5.7

Chris Paul is the only member of the Hornets with a PER over 19.0, while David West is the only other player even over 14.0.

12. Phoenix Suns : 5.0

Like the Mavericks, the have become progressively worse on the defensive end of the floor.

13. Atlanta Hawks : 3.2

The Hawks were 29th in offensive efficiency during the 06-07 season and they've now improved to 11th.

14. Philadelphia 76ers : 2.4

Despite the absence of Elton Brand, the Sixers have been excellent on the offensive glass, grabbing better than 30% of their own misses.

15. Miami Heat : 2.2

Mario Chalmers is just on the fringe of joining the elusive two steals per game plateau as a rookie.

16. Detroit Pistons : 0.3

The Pistons at least still lead the NBA in attendance.

17. Charlotte Bobcats : -1.8

Emeka Okafor is fifth in the NBA in offensive rebounds per game with 3.4.

18. Chicago Bulls : -1.9

Chicago has improved from 26th to 18th offensively from last season, but they have gone from 1st defensively in 06-07 to 17th in just two years time.

19. Milwaukee Bucks : -2.6

The Bucks allow more opponents to get to the line than any other team in the NBA.

20. Indiana Pacers : -4.7

The Pacers are 19-35 with Danny Granger and 9-6 without him this season.

21. New Jersey Nets : -6.3

The Nets have jumped from 25th in offensive efficiency to 13th.

22. Toronto Raptors : -6.3

A silver lining for the Raptors? They're shooting 82.6% from the free throw line.

23. Golden State Warriors : -7.6

Anthony Morrow and Kelenna Azubuike are one, two respectively in 3-point percentage with marks of 48.3% and 45.7%.

24. Oklahoma City Thunder: -9.6

The Thunder attempt just 11.6 3-point shots per game.

25. New York Knicks : -10.3

Like clockwork, the Knicks are dead last in blocked shots at 2.3 per game, more than 1.5 blocks behind 29th ranked Milwaukee.

26. Minnesota Timberwolves : -11.3

Randy Foye has been healthier and more effective than he was in his sophomore season, but he hasn't taken the kind of step forward that the club was hoping after a promising rookie season.

27. Memphis Grizzlies : -13.5

The Grizzlies have a team assist/turnover ratio of 1.16, which is last in the NBA.

28. L.A. Clippers : -15.1

With a roster full of players that never met a shot they didn't like, the Clippers are averaging 1.16 points per shot, which is last in the NBA.

29. Washington Wizards : -16.2

The Wizards are 15-43 under interim head coach Ed Tapscott.

30. Sacramento Kings : -19.3

The Kings have struggled in a lot of areas, but defending the perimeter has been one of the most glaring as team's shoot 40% from beyond the arc against them.
